Primary Rhinoplasty Surgery

nose surgery

Primary Rhinoplasty refers to a type of surgical procedure performed on a nose not operated on before. Rhinoplasty, or a 'nose job', is a popular surgery that can make significant improvements to the balance of one's facial features and to one's self-esteem. It can also help to correct structural defects causing breathing problems.

Rhinoplasty: A Complex Procedure

Rhinoplasty is regarded as the most difficult operation in Facial Cosmetic, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. It requires precision, planning and experience. The procedure itself requires a different skill set from most other cosmetic surgical procedures. Rhinoplasty demands the mastering of, intricate nasal anatomy, specialized surgical techniques unique to nasal surgery, as well as experience and judgement needed to obtain consistent good rhinoplasty results. The procedure is also complex because it requires a range of rhinoplasty techniques to treat each patient's unique nose. This variation amongst patients requires a surgeon who is able to perform a complete nasal analysis in order to identify each patients aesthetic and functional deformities. The surgeon must also be highly competent in a number of corrective surgical techniques including open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty and be able to execute the best techniques for each circumstance in order to obtain excellent surgical results.

Making such decisions requires having a surgeon who listens and provides education through traditional consultations, up-to-date website information and Advanced Computer Imaging. Also with education in mind, and confident in his surgical abilities, Dr. Parag is regularly filmed during surgical procedures by the media.

Assessment for Rhinoplasty

Dr. Parag strives in every Rhinoplasty surgery to individualize his treatment plan. The key to a happy patient and a good outcome in Rhinoplasty surgery is good planning. Dr. Parag will meet with each and every patient in consultation first to assess their nose, general health, current use of medications, supplements, alcohol, tobacco and drugs. Dr. Parag will listen to the patient's expectations and discuss the surgical options and risks. Dr. Parag will recommend a plan based on what can be realistically achieved with Rhinoplasty surgery.

Prior to the Rhinoplasty procedure, a second consultation will take place. This meeting is considered a planning session. At the planning session photographs will be taken and advanced computer imaging will be used to estimate what can be achieved with the Rhinoplasty surgery. Computer imaging is an excellent tool in providing patients with a realistic, rather than absolute, representation of what Rhinoplasty surgery may achieve.

Rhinoplasty Surgery and Recovery

The Rhinoplasty surgery is typically done with general anesthesia. Patients will stay in one of our hospital facilities after surgery until ready for discharge. The recovery from Rhinoplasty is variable. The nasal splint is typically removed from the nose a week after surgery. At this time the nose will not be its final shape. The nose will take an additional few weeks to improve in appearance and requires more time to refine and heal completely.

Rhinoplasty Revisions

Up to ten percent of Rhinoplasty patients may develop minor imperfections of their nose while healing. These imperfections typically are small bumps along the nasal bridge where the nose has been altered. Imperfections from Rhinoplasty surgery often resolve themselves without treatment. By following Rhinoplasty surgery, Dr. Parag will assess the final result of the surgery. If any further improvement is believed to be possible, Dr. Parag will offer options to improve the result. Some patients may need revision Rhinoplasty surgery done by Dr. Parag to optimize results. Generally, revisions for Dr. Parag's initial surgery are minor may not have additional fees. The Rhinoplasty surgery experience is generally a very positive one for most patients. Dr. Parag's ultimate goal is to achieve an excellent Rhinoplasty result and a happy patient. In the rare situation that a patient requires a more extensive revision procedure, Dr. Parag will provide all options available prior to the subsequent surgery.
